Introduction from our Head Chef

When we opened the restaurant on June 6th last year (We launched on the 16th July), we set out our stall very clearly: to enhance dining prospects within Milton Keynes & North Bucks, by becoming the very best restaurant in the area and worthy of a Michelin star.

I’d like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for your magnificent support over the past year.

We have enjoyed an outstanding response through ‘word of mouth’ advertising from our local guests. We are essentially a locals’ restaurant and, without your wonderful backing, our continued success would be seriously hindered. Thank you for all the positive feedback and constructive criticism, and I personally look forward to hearing your further comments, during one of my after-service meet & greets.

We have some exciting things happening here over the next few months:

We’re now linked to 3 local schools: St Mary’s C of E Primary School in Wavendon; Dame Alice Harpur in Bedford and Walton High in Walnut Tree. They have been adopted as part of the “Chef’s Adopt A School” project. Please click here for more information about this nationwide initiative.

We have two guéridons arriving in the near future to enhance your pre-dinner drinks and pre-dessert cheese offering.

In late 2008/ early 2009, we are planning to have a variety of “Hosted Evenings”, from small farm producers, winemakers and guest chefs. As an e-newsletter subscriber, you will receive priority notification about these events.

certificateWe are thrilled to announce that Milton Keynes Environmental Health have accredited The Plough Wavendon with the highest possible rating for standards of food hygiene.  Our Five Star “Scores On The Doors” certificate offers our guests that extra reassurance and reflects our commitment to dining quality.  More details of the “Scores On The Doors” scheme are available at www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk.

Last year we were awarded ‘Best Commercial design’ for our landscaped garden areas by Horticulture Week. (Link to the pdf article)

We were also acknowledged by Restaurant Magazine as being the only restaurant in Buckinghamshire to have 2 finalist categories for Soup and the Cheese plate in their annual UK Best Dishes awards.( to menu page)

On Wednesday 16th July 2008, we hosted a black-tie dinner for some of our regular guests and we were presented with Buckinghamshire Restaurant of The Year 2008 by the Foodie Square Guide.

To celebrate the festive season, we have two delicious Christmas Party Menus for you to choose from.  These are available from 15th November 2008 for bookings of six guests or more. 

Let us take the stress and strain out of your Christmas Day.  No more slaving over a hot stove, worrying about whether the turkey is undercooked or if the sprouts are overcooked…  Relax and let us do the hard work for you!  We have an outstanding Tasting Menu for you on December 25th. 

See in 2009 in style.  We would love you to join us on December 31st, either for an early dinner or for our sumptuous Tasting Menu. 
These menus will be ‘previewed’ in our next e-newsletter before release to the wider public.

We like to give something back to you, our guest, so here are two special recipes - taken from our current menu - which may tempt you back into the kitchen. Please note that these recipes are written to be ‘commercial’ rather than 'domestic' so may need to be scaled down to suit your purposes.
